Batalla de Gallos
A pelea de gallos or batalla de gallos is “a combat that takes place between two cocks of the same genus or race of birds called fine birds of combat, propitiated by the human being for their enjoyment and betting"
The term ‘Batalla de Gallos’ has been adopted by Hispanic hip hop and rap artists as a rather colorful metaphor for their face-offs, where a group of artists perform ‘against’ each other, in hopes to kill each other during battle. Just a metaphor, of course. The term has also been adopted by Hispanic writers, in hopes to transform poetry from something that looks so solemn and distant, to something that can be enjoyed by a crowd.
We gathered a group of Hispanic poets and musicians that performed at Daily Vinyl on Sunday, October 22 afternoon.
