Gabriela Mistral and Gonzalo Rojas Book Launch

Saturday, August 26th, Chinese editions of an anthology of poems written by Gabriela Mistral and Gonzalo Rojas was launched at  MADHAUS cafe at the Jing’An Culture Center. This was the first official publication in Chinese of the works of these renowned Chilean poets.

 

The book "Tu Eres un Agua de Cien Ojos" (You Are Water of A Hundred Eyes) was published by Yanshan publishing house and translated by Peking University Professor Zhao Zhenjiang.

 

In 1945, Gabriela Mistral was the first Latin American poet to be awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature. This new collection of her poems portrays love in three stages: love between men and women, maternal love, and human love.

 

On the other hand, the book “El Sol es la Unica Semilla” (The Sun is the Only Seed) gathers 88 pieces of Gonzalo Rojas' work, including Sol y la Muerte (Sun and Death). The poems reflect Rojas' experience and constant thinking regarding life under his surreal imagination.

 

He received the Chilean National Prize for Literature and the Queen Sofia Prize of Iberian American Poetry (by the King of Spain), both in 1992. He was also awarded the Octavio Paz prize of Mexico and the Jose Hernandez prize of Argentina. 

 

AL with the support of The Consulate of Chile in Shanghai and the cultural office of The Embassy of Chile in Beijing organized this event which brought together Latino and Chinese communities together.
