Dig a Hole Through the Ground and You Will Find This

ALWorks brought  ‘Dig a Hole Through the Ground and You Will Find This’ art exhibition to Shanghai, China. Simultaneously held with its counterpart in Santiago, Chile, the exhibition is a first of its kind in the growing scene of contemporary arts.

‘Dig a Hole Through the Ground and You Will Find This’ invites four China-based and four Chile-based illustrators from different backgrounds to portray the day-to-day spaces of the cities they live in, creating a unique encounter between two cultures and realities that often ignore the everydayness in the other.

Having adopted the popular expression, ‘digging a hole to China’ in an attempt to challenge the concept and perception of globalization, ALWorks invited China-based artists LUNA (China), Siu Tang (United Kingdom), Zovi Weng (France), and Johnathan Wilson (United States) as well as Chile-born and raised artists Catalina Bu, Gabriel Ebensperger, Matias Prado and Amelia Armstrong to each share two pieces of original illustration work applying the Risograph printing technique to achieve a reminiscent of handmade screen prints while maintaining a sense of unity and cohesiveness throughout the displayed pieces.

This exhibition serves as a window (or in this case, a tunnel) for audiences to see the beauty and harmony behind subtle moments of serendipity where Eastern and Western cultures come together in the most common aspects of our daily lives.

The ‘Dig a Hole Through the Ground and You Will Find This ‘exhibition was launched on June 1st, 2018 at Urbancross Gallery on 37 Dong Hu Road in Shanghai and at Casa O de Lastarria in Santiago, Chile, and was open to all audiences throughout the month of June 2018.
